Metafiction about the future

Once upon a time, there was a man named Mark. He was walking down the street, thinking that there was no future for him. He had just lost his job because he accidentally spilled coffee on his boss's shirt, and he was divorced because his wife couldn't stand the smell of his house anymore. He had just lost all hope and was starting to think about suicide when all of a sudden, a book fell on top of his head without any warning.
"What the?" Mark exclaimed.
"Read the book..." the book seemed to whisper to him.
"Who are you?" Mark asked, thinking that someone was playing a trick on him.
"Read the book..." the book insisted, speaking in a slow, soft voice.
"I must be going crazy! I'm hearing voices from a book?" said Mark. He shook his head and set the book on the ground.
"Read the book..." the book said again, but this time with a hint of impatience.
"Okay, Okay! I'll read the book," said Mark, exasperated. Thinking that it wouldn't do any harm. But little did he know, that book changed his life forever. Right when he opened the book, everything spun around him. The trees and houses spun faster and faster. Then, everything was still. Absolutely still.

Opening his eyes, Mark was transfixed by the extraordinary sight in front of him.
"Where am I?" said Mark, looking at the flying cars and moving sidewalks that seemed to be spinning around him. The book was open in front of him and seemed to be calling out to him. With little other choice, Mark started reading.

In the future, people will ride in flying cars and TVs will cost less than watermelons. Flying cars will be powered by an engine that runs on music and pollution from the car will be converted into candy.

Looking around, Mark realized that all the cars were indeed flying and when he looked at a floating advertisement, it read,
" Watermelon prices rising to $49.99" and
"TV marketing stores announce that their prices dropped to $23!"

Shaking his head, unbelieving what he was seeing, Mark started to hear a distant sound. After a while, Mark realized that it was music, and it was coming from inside the cars. Also, from the exhaust pipe, instead of toxic fumes coming out, candy was raining down. Staring in amazement, Mark kept reading.

The candy will come in many different kinds and will be affected be the environment. For example, when driving through a rainbow, Skittles will come out of the exhaust pipe, and when driving past bathrooms, Twix will come out.

Watching the cars again, Mark realized this to be true as well. With growing excitement, Mark kept reading.

The frame of the car will come from artificial titanium that is stronger than cotton! It will be strong enough to resist even the most powerful sneezes! The people inside the car wouldn't have drive at all because the car will be controlled by a group of people that have no other jobs. This will provide homeless people or those in poverty with an abundance of jobs.

"Maybe I can get this job." thought Mark to himself.
"I don't have any other jobs, and this job seems like it pays a lot." thought Mark. Mark kept reading.

Also, there will be 5G and 6G networks. People wouldn't have to wait to use the internet. Maybe, there will be no computers.

Mark checked his cell phone, and sure enough, his phone seemed to be many times faster. Checking the internet, Mark found that even the most longest downloads took only seconds to download. Afterwards, he kept reading.

People will invent a small chip and acupuncture them into people's skin. Then they will call person to person by using their skin, emotion, or brain. People won't have to go to job or schools because we can do almost everything in our own house. We can do business. Employees can have a video conference and it will be much more developed than it is now. The time for sending data will be reduced. It will be so much more comfortable.

There were many more pages, but Mark, skipping with joy, left the book where it was and ran off knowing that there was a lot more to life than he initially thought. The book suddenly flashed brightly. The book started to spin faster and faster. Mark wildly grabbed for the book and managed to get his fingers on it right when the book shone in an explosion of white light. He spun faster and faster. The wind whistled around his ears and everything was spinning around him. Then, everything was still. Absolutely still.

Afterwards, Mark knew that there was many things to do in order to make the future a reality. Mark started to work at the Honda development institute where he started to work on cars which get their energy source from music. Later, he developed the world's first ever flying car in 2020.He then got married and had children  and, for many years, Mark led a happy life all because of the book that brought him to the future.

  1. It seems like you were run out of time at the end. Your story basically has two layers: the book, Mark in the future, and Mark in the present. It would be better if you color "Mark in the future" in yellow so that a reader can understand better. You also need to elaborate more about how Mark goes back to the present, but I am sure that if you were given more time, you would have made an effective and impressive ending. Overall, this is one of my favorites. Excellent work!
